Vulnerability Assessments

A scan can tell you what's wrong, but we can tell you what matters.

Ongoing visibility, real prioritization, and a program built to keep up with an evolving threat landscape.
CREST-accredited. Built around your scope.

Automated scanners generate reports.
We provide intelligence.

As your assets and the world’s threats change and evolve, you need a vulnerability assessment program that helps you prioritize and manage your risks. Our vulnerability assessment program combines automated scanning with quarterly expert analysis to identify vulnerabilities, prioritize risks, and track remediation progress over time.

Whether you need ongoing monitoring for compliance, want to track security improvements over time, or simply need help prioritizing what to fix first, our vulnerability management program gives you clarity without the noise.

CREST-certified penetration testers review findings quarterly to validate results, identify false positives, and help you understand which vulnerabilities pose the greatest risk based on your specific environment. Whether you need ongoing monitoring for compliance, want to track security improvements over time, or simply need help prioritizing what to fix first, our vulnerability management program gives you clarity without the noise.

You’ll know what’s vulnerable across your infrastructure, which issues need immediate attention, and how your security posture is trending month over month.

Scout Services

We work with you to build the vulnerability assessment program that your organization needs. These are some of the most common programs we help build:

NetworkScout

The first step in vulnerability management is to build a reliable inventory of the systems and services on your network. Asset Scout does this by running daily host discovery scans across the network so you can detect any unauthorized devices or changes.

NetworkScout is a subscription-based service built to perform asset discovery and vulnerability assessments, taking vulnerability scanning to the next level by adding a human component. With it, you’ll know how many devices are part of your business’ internal network, how many are attached externally, and other key points of data.

NetworkScout
WebScout

WebScout

As technology evolves, more organizations come to rely upon web technologies and associated applications to run their businesses, and security becomes increasingly important and crucial to your business’s day-to-day functions.

Applications need regular updates to stay functional and secure. WebScout is designed to assess and identify flaws in your web applications and the risks they may expose within your business. We probe the application with various discovery techniques to determine security weaknesses the application exhibits.

CloudScout

CloudScout is a cloud configuration scanning service that is designed to provide you with insight on how well your cloud configurations measure up to industry standards. As with most of our Scout lines of services, we take the hybrid approach of combining automation and manual expert analysis to provide you with quality, actionable results.

We make it our business to become experts in the same cloud concepts and technologies that we assess, and over 90% of our own infrastructure is running in the cloud.

CloudScout
RemoteAccessScout

RemoteAccessScout

RemoteAccessScout is a one-time vulnerability assessment backed by our security consultant experience. Secure Ideas performs a vulnerability assessment of remote access systems. This assessment is evaluated by our consultants and within 2 business days of the request a report is available to the client.

This rapid vulnerability assessment assists our clients in understanding and evaluating the risks before an attacker can.

PCIScout

The Payment Card Industry (PCI) Council requires that all organizations that accept credit cards, online or offline, comply with the Data Security Standard (DSS) to protect their customer’s data. Requirement 11.2.2 of DSS 3.2 (11.3.2 of DSS 4.0.1) requires that merchants have quarterly external scans conducted by an Approved Scanning Vendor (ASV).

Secure Ideas partners with Qualys to perform the required PCI DSS scanning. PCIScout provides clients with certified scan reports for PCI DSS compliance and the information necessary to fix flaws in their network.

How Often Should You Perform Vulnerability Scans?

This depends on whether you have any specific compliance requirements. If not, industry best practice recommends vulnerability scanning at least quarterly, though many frameworks now require monthly or continuous scanning depending on risk level and data sensitivity.

If you have compliance driven needs, they may look like the following:

  • PCI DSS mandates quarterly scans with ASV validation for external scans.
  • HIPAA requires regular scanning as part of risk management but doesn’t specify frequency.
  • CMMC Level 2+ requires at least quarterly scanning,
  • NIST and CIS recommend monthly scans for most environments, with weekly or daily scans for high-risk systems.

Scanning frequency should align with your compliance requirements and risk profile

Yes. All Scout services follow a four-step process: asset discovery, vulnerability scanning, manual assessment, and consultant-delivered reporting. Monthly or quarterly subscriptions are available based on your requirements.

Scout provides subscription-based vulnerability assessments combining automated scanning with manual analysis. Network Scout covers internal networks (via a dedicated on-site device called a SIAM) or external networks exposed to the internet. Web Scout assesses web applications and APIs through automated scans followed by manual mapping via intercepting proxy.

The right starting point depends on your security program maturity and requirements. We recommend that organizations just beginning their security journey start with a gap analysis to identify control deficiencies, followed by vulnerability assessments and eventually penetration testing.

Those with existing security programs benefit from security assessments (cooperative reviews of controls and policies) before penetration testing. If you have specific compliance requirements mandating penetration tests or audits, start there. The key is matching the assessment type to your current security posture and objectives.

Reputable penetration testing firms protect your data through three core principles:

  1. Discretion in what data is accessed and how
  2. Secure transmission and storage using encrypted channels and AES-256 encryption at rest
  3. Strict retention policies that destroy test artifacts shortly after report finalization.

Testers exercise judgment to minimize unnecessary data collection, using screenshots and redaction when possible. All data handling follows responsible security practices, with customizable retention periods available to meet your operational or regulatory requirements.

Absolutely. Any reputable penetration testing company should provide sample reports upon request. Reports are your primary deliverable and should include an executive summary, testing narrative, detailed findings with risk ratings, replication steps for verification, and actionable remediation recommendations. Not all reports are created equal, so reviewing samples helps ensure the format and content meet your needs. Most companies will accommodate reasonable modifications to reporting formats.

PETaaS®  is on-demand pentesting services, which provides you with continuous access to our penetration testing expertise rather than a one-time assessment. This approach offers on-demand or scheduled testing, which integrates with your software development lifecycle, and delivers regular vulnerability analysis with ongoing support. While it may initially appear more expensive than traditional testing, PETaaS® is significantly more cost-effective than hiring full-time security staff and provides proactive, real-time vulnerability identification.

Note: The industry lacks a standard definition for penetration testing as a service, so verify that your provider’s approach aligns with your expectations.
